Silat Harimau

There exist various styles of Silat that are commonly practiced by different Pencak Silat Schools (perguruan) in Indonesia, among others: Silat Harimau or the Tiger Form whose steps reflect tiger-like movement.

The Silat Harimau is the one that derives from Silat Minang -the form that Edwel Yusri-, whose honorific is Datuk Rajo Gampo Alam, delved into and learned from renowned Silat gurus while growing up in the West Sumateran area of Minangkabau. Silat Harimau is also practiced in other areas in West Sumatera, such as Kampuang Pariaman, Ujuang Bukit Pungasan Pesisir Bandar Sepuluh, Muaro Sijinnuang Solok, and Pasaman.

Very few people can have access to learning Silat harimau, not just because of its rigorous training but also due to restrictions that allow ony blood relatives to inherit the skills.

It is neither my intention nor that of Edwel Yusri Datuk Rajo Gampo Alam to break the family rule by teaching this Silat Harimau. Far from that, it is to document Silat Harimau, so that it may be practiced and preserved as a valuable cutural heritage of the Indonesia People.
